Yoga Classes with Pam Chappell

In our modern rather hectic world more and more people are taking up the ancient practice of yoga, and they are finding within this philosophy that originated in India some 5000 years ago, a holistic approach to balancing body mind and spirit. An answer to many of the stresses and strains of daily life.

Anyone can practice yoga regardless of age, sex or ability. In modern day yoga classes the postures or asanas are modified and adjusted to suit not only the fit and flexible but also students with conditions from pregnancy to arthritis.

Through the postures (the physical practice of yoga) the body itself is strengthened and this helps to increase bone density. It becomes more supple which in turn protects the joints. Stamina and endurance are improved which is beneficial to heart rate and general fitness.

Through the breathing practices we learn to breathe more easily and efficiently, and bring relaxation to the whole body. Most classes last between an hour and a half and two hours, in which a range of postures, plus modifications build up to stronger movements and “full posture”. Periods of quiet breathing and relaxation also form a key part of each class.

1-2-1 Swimming Lessons with Sophie George

Sophie George, a Leisure Professional at the club is offering 1-2-1 swimming lessons to members. The lessons are for adults only and are suitable for beginners or improvers.  Sophie holds the Level 1 ASA Swim Teachers qualification and has 4 years experience teaching children, adults and the disabled.  Free 15 minute taster sessions are available to assess your ability and see what you might like to work on. Sophie is currently offering a special promotion where if you book a course of 6 half hour lessons you will receive one lesson free. Weekday and weekend times available.

Pilates Classes with Jo Johnson

The Pilates vogue is easy to understand because it is a great way to achieve full-body toning and strengthening and at the same time refresh your mental wellbeing.

Pilates is based around eight basic principles: relaxation, co-ordination, alignment, stamina, concentration, centering, breathing and flowing movements.

Pilates is a series of controlled movements that unite the body and mind. Through the use of this method overall awareness of the body is achieved helping us move freely without pain or tension through our everyday activities.

Over time you will notice improved posture and alignment, firmer buttocks, flatter stomach, and leaner arms and legs. It is a wonderful way to strengthen the back and protect the body from strain and tension and to build a balanced strength and agility.
